Elise Champe is a Franco-American artist whose current work explores line, gesture and intuitive movement.
Working directly on paper without preparatory drawings, Champe allows one mark to suggest the next, creating compositions that develop through movement, repetition and interruption.
Her recent works combine restrained graphite and black lines with occasional interventions of color. The drawings explore the tension between structure and spontaneity, between the deliberate mark and the unexpected direction it creates.
Champe studied at the Rhode Island School of Design from 1988–1991 and received her BA in Art from New England College in 1992.
She lives and works in Colorado.
